gateway. united airlines presented a bid requesting just over $300,000 annually. su "city leaders say having two bids shows the growth in the area." "now if we can continue to do what we do, maybe we can get off this essential air service in a couple of years and actually have airlines coming in here like we used to 20, 30 years ago," said scott. american airlines has operated at the airport under the eas program since april 2012, replacing delta airlines. this is its third bid with the airport. right now the airline has the contract to serve sioux city with 13 weekly flights to and from chicago's o'hare airport. that contract expires april 30th 2016. the bid for that contract was for $611,000 per year. united presented a bid last cycle at a much higher subsidy of $1.4-million. united pitched in its current bid that it will also look into possible flights to denver. "american has continued to look at dallas and unfortunately, i think with their merger with u-s that got, u-s air, that got put on the backburner." said scott. "but you know but i think both of the two that bid are looking at

(sheila) after seven years of federal review, president barack obama has rejected the keystone x-l oil pipeline. (matt) reaction was swift from republican lawmakers, whose states stood to benefit from the project.

the project doesn't make sense to move forward. first, the president said the pipeline wouldn't make, quote "a meaningful, long-term contribution" to the economy. translation? few new, permanent jobs. "second, the pipeline would not lower gas prices for american consumers," said president barack obama. "in fact gas prices have already been falling, steadily." third? the president said shipping, quote "dirtier crude oil" into the country wouldn't increase america's energy security. "what has increased america's energy security is our strategy over the past several years to reduce our reliance on dirty fossil fuels from unstable parts of the world," the president said. south dakota governor dennis daugaard says friday's move makes the opposite true. "by halting the keystone pipeline the president is eliminating an opportunity for america to be more reliant on trusted north american friends and less reliant on oil producers from other places - many of whom do

our values," said gov. dennis daugaard, (r) south dakota. nebraska governor pete ricketts said the president's decision was "politically-motivated", and "puts jobs and this tax revenue at risk." u.s. senator charles grassley said simply that the president's decision is, quote "completely non-sensical." >> the keystone xl pipeline proposal would have built an 11-hundred mile pipeline from canada to refineries in texas. as many as 2,500 people were homeless in sioux city last year. (sheila) to put a dent in that number, a major event is going on right now at lewis and clark park in sioux city. (matt) that's where we find ktiv's robert lowe. he's with live link 4 and has more, robert? matt and sheila, out of those 2,500 around 300 people could be sleeping out in the cold on any given night. but, as you said, hoping to counter that number, as many as 300 siouxlanders are expected to show up tonight, to sleep outside for the 11th time that the organization has hosted the siouxland sleep out. joining me

veterans in cherokee county got a big thank you today. it's more then 6 feet tall and over 40,000 pounds.

this massive rock is on the road to becoming a freedom rock. these rocks are made by an artist named ray "bubba" sorensen who has taken on the task of painting murals on rocks in each of iowa's 99 counties. they are meant as a thank you to veterans and their families. cherokee county's rock was moved this morning. one vietnam veteran has seen the other freedom rocks and says he's been trying to get a rock in cherokee for years. "i think the rock probably help bring a lot of the memories back, but i wouldn't trade it for anything because i feel like i'm a better person for being in the army and going to war like that and i'd do it again," said vietnam veteran cherokee, iowa vfw commander, edward boger. boger enlisted when he was 17- years-old. he fought in vietnam twice and says this rock is a big thank you. "to me it's a sign that that they're giving back to me for what we've done in vietnam," said vietnam veteran cherokee, iowa vfw

the freedom rock was unloaded to the courthouse lawn. design plans will begin soon and they hope to begin painting it by 2017. sioux city public transit will be providing free rides to all active and former veterans this veteran's day. on november 11th, for a free bus ride, all veterans have to do is tell their bus driver what branch of the armed forces they were in and the period of their active duty. a big milestone surrounding the bird flu outbreak in iowa. today, state agricultural officials lifted the quarantine of all commercial poultry farms in the state. that includes 72 facilities. that means all the site have been cleaned and disinfected and clear of the virus. bill northey says we're at least a month away from knowing whether or not the state has made it through an addition exposure to the virus.
